Title: Conde De Aldama Amontillado Product Type: Food and Beverages > Wine and Spirits Description: This beautiful and venerable old wine is one of the oldest Sherries around. It is a natural Amontillado, without extra fortification, and has an average age of 100 years. The wine comes from a pre-phylloxera solera established in 1740 by Bodegas Aguilar & Cia in Sanlúcar. It began life as Manzanilla and was once owned by the Conde de Aldama. The Conde was unimpressed with the quality of the post-phylloxera wine and sealed his soleras to prevent spoilage, resulting in more concentrated and valuable wines. It passed through the hands of Manuel Argüeso Hortal and Valdespino before finding its way to Francisco Yuste. The wine's complex aroma is immediately apparent, with notes of exotic woods like cedar and sandalwood, as well as toasted nuts such as almond and hazelnut.

Amazingly raw (and poor) amontillado for the price. Or for any price, frankly. There may be some good stuffing underneath but it's clearly masked by some way-underpar, lower quality, overly young juice. Simply not good, especially compared to what you can get (talking premium Sherry) for a lot less. First Basco fail for me.
