Known as Buey in Spain, Ox is the steak that everyone wants but few can get hold of. These beautiful animals are so rare and special due to their size, they can reach over 2,000Kg in weight! Oxen are male cows that have been castrated with less than one year, to reduce their level of testosterone, so they become more docile and easier to control. To breed an animal for 8 years that does not produce milk or calves or helps in farming activities means a remarkably high cost to any farmer. Ox meat is highly regarded in Spain due to the level of fat infiltration and mellowness its beef produces. Our ox steaks are from the Minhota breed from the Northwest of Portugal, from the rich lands of the MiƱo River. Our ox is bred for over 8 years before dry ageing the loins for over 80 days to produce the finest piece of steak you will ever experience.
