Secreto Iberico (1kg) - Acorn-Flavored Iberian Pork Loin Cut Reviews

4.9 Rating 291 Reviews
Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

Secreto Iberico is a prized cut from the top of the Iberian pig's loin. Located near the fat, it is often referred to as the 'hidden gem' of Iberico pork. This thin cut sizzles on the grill, releasing acorn-flavored juices that infuse the pork with a rich, delicious taste. Iberico pigs, which are indigenous to southwest Spain, graze in dehesa forests and feed on a diet of herbs, grasses, and acorns. Their active lifestyle and acorn-rich diet contribute to the pork's exceptional marbling and unique flavor. The secreto is similar to a tender skirt steak, with a texture that is both tender and slightly chewy. The mono-unsaturated fats in acorn-fed Iberico pork are healthier than those in regular pork and melt at low temperatures, making this a delicious and healthy choice.

As a first time buyer I'm very happy with this excellent cut of pork. It arrived when they said it would and was well insulated and still frozen. I will buy again.

The packaging and delivery was good - as expected for a 10£ delivery fee. As for the produce I must admit I was quite disapointed to see that it was a 800gr piece (label read 778gr) and not the 1 kg I had paid for. Id understand a few grams of discrepncy (give/take) but c’mon, we are talking >20% less than I had purchased. The quality of the meat itself was very good - a genuine piece of secreto iberico which of course delivers all the flavour and properties you expect from the magnificent iberico pork - but still quite disapointed with having paid 33 quid for 1kg of produce and only get a shy 80% of it. Not acceptable sorry! VERY frustrating admitedly because the produce was good like I said and the packaging/delivery expensive but quite profesional so I’d certainly be looking at ordering more stuff in the future was it not because I felt SO ripped off with the amount. Will certainly be looking for alternative sources for my very much loved iberico stuff in the future.

Hello Iker, Thank you for taking the time to notify us regarding the obvious reduction in the weight you received this has been a picking mistake on our part which I appreciate is frustrating for you and on behalf of Basco, we offer our sincere apologies. With all meat, there is variance in weight between each cut/piece and within our business, we have two customer sources retail/trade. for retail customers, we purposely choose/send pieces that are always over the advertised weight and with trade customers, they pay by weight where the size is not an issue. We work hard to ensure the customer is always put first and we are genuinely sorry this has happened and from your feedback, I have passed on this feedback to our warehouse management who will ensure this does not happen again. With regards to the difference, you have not received in the weight vs price I have been instructed by the accounts team to issue you an immediate credit to your Basco account as an apology with an additional complimentary value as a way of a further apology for the mistaske on our part. Happy to discuss this further if you would like? please feel free to message or phone me on the below details, Sincere apologies again Miles & team BASCO Unit 427C Thorp Arch Estate Wetherby, West Yorkshire LS23 7FG, UK T. + 44 (0) 1937 845 767 E. miles@bascofinefoods.com

I pan fried it in my griddle pan and it was really wonderful. The fat melted away and it had a lovely crisp outside. I slightly overlooked it, but it was still lovely. We had a little left over, which was just as nice cold.

Tried this after Abanico. This is slightly more meaty and firmer than Abanico but yet still tender and succulent! Different texture compared to Abanico but absolutely love this too!
