Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay 2011 (86% Tempranillo, 14% Mazuelo) - Rioja Gran Reserva Reviews

Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay 2011 is a renowned historic label, an icon of Rioja's Grandes Reservas. Exclusively produced from a single 80 year old vineyard, La Plana, this wine is matured for two and a half years in American oak barrels and three years in bottle. The result is a complex and vivacious wine with an intense cherry color. Its aroma offers an enticing blend of red fruits, floral notes, truffles, incense, and spicy touches. The palate is satin-textured with a balance of strength, elegance, and fruity intensity.

This single bottle of wine was only delivered last Saturday and it cost £105. The reason I purchased it is my son teaches in Madrid the daughter of the owner of the vineyard and he knows the mother. Wine Spectator gave this particular wine a score of 96 and rated it the best Spanish red wine. My granddaughter is employed by Manola Blahnic (luxury shoes) in London and the wine for his 80th birthday party was supplied by this company and they also sponsored both the Spanish golf and tennis tournaments. I'm not sure if and when I will pull the cork
