Arroyabe Bonito Tuna in Olive Oil 260g Reviews

Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

Bonito del Norte is considered by Spaniards to be the finest of tunas. Arroyabe is a venerable company from the Basque region, famed for its firm, flavorful tuna. Generations of Northern Spanish fishermen have sailed the Bay of Biscay in small boats, fishing bonito tuna using both trolling and live-bait traditional techniques in which the fishing rod is used to catch bonito tuna one by one, allowing the best quality tuna to be selected at the time of capture. These tuna fishing methods also ensure that the seabed is not damaged and that other species are not accidentally captured. Bonito tuna is an essential component of the Mediterranean diet. It is characterised by an exquisite flavour and softer texture than any other tuna. The tuna belly is considered by many connoisseurs to be the most tender and delicious part. It is a far cry from the water-packed tuna you get at the supermarket. Warning: once you taste this silky smooth tuna, you may never buy another tin of ordinary tuna. It is great in salads or on sandwiches, as well as a stuffing for piquillo peppers.

Pound for pound the greatest tasting Bonito tuna on the market bar none. Beats Ortiz hands down in my book. Beautifully tasty and great size tin.

Absolutely delicious! I’ve been trying to find proper Spanish tuna since visiting friends in Bilbao some time ago. The taste is so different to tuna in a can from the UK, really tasty and lovely flavour. I used a recipe from the Basco website to make this into a lovely dish with shallots and peppers, with olive oil and cider vinegar. Fantastic!

Bonito that simply isn't available in the UK at this standard. Couple it up in a salad with the Bujanda tinned pimientos for the finest lunch.

I enjoy a Salad Nicoise but got fed up with the quality of canned tuna in UK supermarkets compared to what's available in Spain. Have now bought a couple of times and would recommend.
