A light 4 weight rod with a polished wooden reel seat to underline quality of this rod. Can’t wait for the trout season to start to try this rod in the river. Thanks again for a high quality product at a reasonable price from Barbless flies

This appears to be a nice, functional 4wt sub $400 carbon rod. It will undoubtedly fish competently. I've spent about an hour or so casting it in my backyard in a variety of winds- from none to light gusts at 20 to 30 feet. It feel just like Bannister describes t on his website-"fast and progressive but not stiff." weighing in at 76 grams (2.6 oz) on my kitchen scale, it has a very nice balance point just behind my thumb on the cigar grip when paired with a 120 gram reel/line combination( Galvin Brookie4-5 wt reel and #4 Wulff triangle taper line). (Your thumb might vary). Overall, it looks like a competent production rod--nothng stands out, but the paint, ferruling and line guides and the reels seat look to have been done to Japanese, or at least solid Asian standards to me , I.e., simple, clean and competent. I was somewhat puzzled about the reel seat which has a water-proofish plastic looking orange finish, which has some kind of wood grain marking design--I am not enough of a fetishist about such things to say for sure. Is it wood? Is it plastic? Well, I don't really care because it looks solid and waterproof, whatever its composition. Just fine for a 295 bps price tag from our friends at Barbless Flies. Not exactly the !4,000 bps standard that Bannister offers on his site, but nice for the price nonetheless.

The service from Richard is first class as usual, another quality item with this Luke Bannister fly rod. With the new season just around the corner I’m looking forward to trying this out soon so too early to comment on how it performs at this stage. It’s a beautiful well finished rod and very pleased with the purchase. Well done Richard for securing another quality item for your customers.

Not had the chance to use it ‘in anger’ on the river yet as it’s still close season. However, doing some practice casts in my garden I was struck by the accuracy of the rod head and its quick recovery. Very light in the hand but both short and long casts seem easy to achieve. Very nicely put together and excellent finish. Worth the money. Keen to try it out on the water…
