Quality at a good price. However I have not used it yet. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.

I recently "re-discovered" among my collection of fly rods a 1980s early carbon Hardy Sovereign. It is a very pretty 8' 6" 4/5wt 2-piece, ruby coloured rod. One of the reasons I put it aside is that I never found the line that made it work as I thought it should. Seeing the General Purpose lines at a very reasonable price from Barbless Flies I purchased the 4wt weight-forward floating line and paired it with the Sovereign. It works a treat, loading the rod beautifully. The line finish is slick and it floats extremely well right down to the tip. There is a small amount of line memory (coiling) straight off the reel, but this irons out quite quickly in the first few casts. Mostly I fish on a small chalk stream in Norfolk, but I recently took this rod and line to a local stillwater fishery. On a windy day I could achieve a line speed that allowed me to fish into the wind with only a small loss of distance considering this is a very light rig. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Quite simply, these are as good as lines costing twice as much and more.

Whilst I haven’t actually used mine, I was tempted to buy it after trying one my fishing pal had bought. We are both Guides and with over 40 years experience each and concluded the line performed as well as lines 3 times the price.
