“The Sanus Steel Foundation IV Series has become a trusted problem solver for powered monitor and bookshelf speaker placement. “I was wary about speaker stands because they just did not seem right to me. With speakers mounted the whole contrivance looks top-heavy and unstable, considering the small footprint of the bases and the even smaller mounting plates. Well, the Sanus Stands, with the help of Blu Tack securing speaker to plate, work just fine. The base is heavy enough to be reasonably stable, but I live with my dog in earthquake country, so I felt extra weight at the base would be prudent. Sand or shot were not options in my application, so I bought two lengths of heavy chain in a dull blue-grey finish which complemented the stands. They actually look pretty cool in a post-industrial apocalyptic sort of way.
It speaks well of the design that the stands went together sturdily with Tab A meeting Slot B accurately, despite that I made every mistake possible when assembling. I recommend not just reading, but really absorbing the instructions before attaching anything anywhere.
My only criticisms are that the hollow legs are resonant absent sand or shot, such that they ring audibly when knuckle-tapped, and the vibration-damping devices are very minimal considering that these are featured in the literature.
To sum, I feel pretty secure about my speakers now, and that the Sanus stands are a good value.”
“My favorite things about these stands is the curved design and large footprint of the base plates. They are very hard to tip. The top plate is generous too (my ELAC reference speakers are barely larger than the plate. If assembled with care, the stand feels very sturdy. The cable management loops are a simple solution that works well for non-monster cables.”
