“To add to my Node Icon review. Now I'm using XLR interconnects directly into my Rogue preamplifier. The bass is better defined than the Denafrips Pontus and the RCA outputs of the Icon. The bass sits in the music beautifully. The XLR output seems to be taking advantage of the dual DAC chips that the Icon incorporates. The soundstage is better, imaging is better, the indivIdual instrument tone is great. This is important- the overall coherency is the best that I have heard in the streaming world. I believe that the dual DAC arrangement of the Icon is overlooked. It's significant and is better using the XLR outputs. BTW, I Doubted this at first when I read it from a Canadian Audiomart member.”
“I had the Node 2i for several years. It was a real breakthrough for my music listening. No hassle of dealing with a computer. Every song at my fingertips. The streamer in the Node Icon is definitely better than the previous Node models. The Dac in it makes me doubt the need for my Denafrips Pontus 2 DAC that cost me 2 grand. The Pontus DAC is a tad better. But if I only used the DAC in the Icon. I would just keep enjoying the music. In fact the DAC in the Icon is a little more detailed than the Pontus but not quite as full sounding. It's a better streamer that the older Node models. I'm not sure about the new lower end models by Bluesound. PS I'm looking forward to trying XLR interconnects directly out from my Node Icon to my preamp. “This streamer DAC sounds very nice, and has some features my Eversolo DMP-A6 didn't have like sub out, 12V trigger and headphone amp. The only thing I think it could have included was a coaxial digital input instead of an optical input. I think the Node Icon and Eversolo sound very similar, at least to me, so it's a matter of which features you prefer.”
