Our tour leader was extremely funny and informative.

We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights on our short trip in January. After being picked up by the coach, we arrived at a popular viewing area that was away from the city lights which was one of the best places to see the Northern lights. After a lot of waiting around in the cold, they finally appeared and you could hear the crowd gasp! Make sure you wrap up warm (thick blankets for the winter as you’ll be standing still for a long time) and consider bringing binoculars to see the lights ‘dancing’!

I bought tickets to see the northern lights, we called as instructed on the ticket but were told the trip had been cancelled. Did not get a reason why but though at least we could get a refund. We still have not heard from the company regarding the refund for a trip we never went on.

We booked our Northern Lights tour for the first day of our holiday, however it was cancelled due to bad weather. We phoned the tour operator the next day and they re-booked us for the day after when the weather was meant to be clearer. The coach took us to a spot just outside Reykjavik where the lights were most likely to appear. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get to see them, however we were very lucky as after around an hour of waiting they showed up in the sky. It was magical and something I'll remember forever. If you want to take photos of the lights you’ll need a decent camera and a tripod, as mobile phone cameras can’t pick them up very well. Make sure you wrap up warm too as you’ll be stood outside for a while waiting for the lights to appear. I wore 5 layers and was still freezing!

We booked this experience with obviously the idea of seeing this fantastic lights show in the sky, unfortunately we didn't get to see them as the weather conditions weren't the best. Due to bad planning on my part we couldn't go again the next night as it was our last night in Iceland but if you were better at planning than me you can then hopefully experience the Northern Lights the following night for free, which i think is a brilliant feature. What i can say is that the guide couldn't have better and was very entertaining. Make sure you do wrap up warm though if you get out to see the lights as it can obviously get very cold at night!
