“Not my first Beerenberg pullover, but the first I’ve had any complaint about, hence the 4 out of 5 stars.
While the knit and the wool itself is as good as ever, it appears they no longer come with the canvas reinforcement on the thumb holes and shoulder seams, which will surely affect the garments longevity.
A cost saving measure or a design choice, either way it’s not going to be a popular change.
Attached a couple of photos, the dark brown is the old model, the lighter grey is the new.”
“Website information on pullover was very detailed, was little unsure of size to order, I’m 5’8 medium build, like my pullovers / ganseys on the snug size? but not too tight, hummed and ar’d a bit, then referred to previous reviews and found the sweaters come up a little small, so opted for Large, no big deal if it’s too big as Arthur Beale have a great return’s service.
Pullover arrived in two days of ordering and it is fantastic and well worth the money, and as for sizing - it’s spot on, just so pleased with it, only wished I’d ordered far earlier when I first saw them, thank you Arthur Beale.”
“Great Beerenberg roll neck jumper.
Quite heavy but that indicates it going to keep you nice and warm.
I haven't worn it yet but you can tell its top quality jumper, even comes with an aroma of sheep fleece.”
“The Beerenberg excels on warmth quality and looks. Wearing it now on the winter solstice on the beach in Whitby. I love it. And real sustainability come from being so durable and made in Britain from british wool. Keep going for another 500 years Arthur Beale! Daren Howarth,C Level”
“I have now bought two Beerenberg pullovers. The word ‘excellent’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Let’s start with the quality: the tightness and density of the yarn is apparent at first touch. This is a resilient pullover that feels impervious to the outside world - every time I put it on, it feels like I’m putting on a suit of armour. And yet, to the touch, it has that magical combination of robustness and delicacy that I have yet to encounter elsewhere. This is a pullover that will last for generations yet cossets you every time you wear it.
It’s fit is nigh on perfect. I’m a large and it could have been made to measure. Its fits in all the right places without in any way constraining me. I guess this goes back to the quality of the yarn. Tight but flexible. No, not flexible - supple. Gently but firmly supple. Exactly how I like it.
The quality of the finish is faultless. Not a stitch out of place; no loose threads; logo nice and symmetrical, properly sewn on. The weave is exceptionally uniform, yet with the vibe of a bespoke product.
It’s piece de resistance is the aroma it gives off. It is that of a bygone age, and all the better for it. This is a pullover the heritage of which emanates from its every fibre. Every time you put it on, you are at one with nature, transported by the pullover’s gentle fragrance out into the fields, the woods, the hills. Indeed, further afield. It is no stretch of the imagination whatsoever to believe that Shackleton or Scott would have worn this. It feels authentic.
If there is a better pullover out there, I have yet to find it. And I’ve been looking for a very long time. Every time I put it on it feels like a special occasion. I’ve come to realise I haven’t bought a pullover - I’ve bought an experience.”
“Sized up well from the size guide, and a very comfortable and cosy pullover. The high neck and thumb loops are my favourite features and the pullover came with a really comprehensive care guide - this promises to be a much-loved staple for years.”
