A great help to my 86 year old brother recently diagnosed with dementia. He's thrilled with it and the text/video messages from the family made his day. It's a huge step forward for us all. We're just learning it but one point was immediately apparent: the appointment message apparently last for one hour - we may have got that wrong though. He has no short term memory and anything that disappears within an hour is absolutely no use. Also I looked at the review questions and have to ask "What in heaven's name does the following mean 'Write a review of AlzProducts (try NOT to leave product reviews here, they can be left on the previous page). Am I going bonkers? One further point: he kept asking how he could acknowledge the messages and we had to tell him to use his phone but of course he forgot within minutes of the answer. It would add to an already excellent product if the recipient could (if wished) reply to messages. Thank you though for a splendid help

This item is expensive, but it has been transformative. We're now just over a week into using it and my mum absolutely loves it and is already relying on it pretty automatically when trying to work out what is going to happen when. She's hooked on the positive messages and hellos the family are sending her, and that makes her tolerant of the less welcome reminders of things she should do and that would otherwise just feel patronising, even if the reminders are absolutely essential for her functioning. Last night, we also did a video call for the first time and it was a great success: she was so much more comfortable just talking to the screen on her table instead of having to awkwardly handle her phone (motor skills are tricky). Sound and image quality were excellent. In terms of feedback to the makers: my mum is frustrated that she can't programme things of her own and that she can't answer back beyond acknowledging receipt of messages by closing them. She doesn't realise that sometimes she would just be messing things up if she did that and I'm hoping she'll forget that I said a firm 'no' to her request to have access to the app herself. If there was a way of recording a short voice message of thanks, for example, that would take the pressure off. The other piece of feedback is that the pictures we sent are a bit small, especially if they include more than one person. She can't see the detail of the faces, so giving over more of the screen space for images (as happens with the video function) would be helpful for someone with okay but not brilliant eyesight. It seems odd to have really big fonts for the messages but quite small images alongside. But the machine itself is super and already my mum is handling daily life much more securely and independently and is no longer fretting about what needs to be done every day and who's going to visit! Great item, no regrets.
