“Actually I bought 2.5 ZZs. I've just returned to them after trying them a while ago and at the time opting for Red Javas instead. But after a couple of years flip-flopping between Red 2.0 (too soft) and Red 2.5 (usually too hard), I thought I'd try the ZZs again and glad I did. I found it took a while to get used to them but they have a nice balance of interesting full tone and punch, and the 2.5 ZZs feel a bit softer than 2.5 Reds so strength-wise they work well for me personally. They play easily in the upper register and invite you to go up onto the palm keys. Of course reed choices are all very personal, and equipment and style dependent. I play a mix of small band and big band jazz, and some pop/rock on a Yani tenor with a metal V16 medium chamber T7 mouthpiece.”
