These are always good value and a lovely surprise. This time I received strips from Christmas fabric. Inspiration. I love these scraps for the creative freedom they give me. There are lots of selvedges which I love sewing into my projects. Buy one of these and do your fifteen minutes of creativity each morning sewing them together somehow or other - it’s a joy to be freed from the need to select and work to a pattern. See below one quilt I made including a scrap bag of browns, reds and beige colours. I would never normally sew with these colours, but they grew on me and I love this project. I also made a book cover using fabric I made with the selvedges.

Loved it! Always fun and takes you out of your comfort zone, colour wise. The Sewing studio staff are always helpful and friendly. All in all a good experience (as always!)

I haven’t opened these scrap bags yet as they are for Christmas gifts (I have started early). The fabric is pot luck and sometimes they can be a little disappointing with the width of the strips but I suppose that is why they are called “scrap” bags. On the whole I have been pleased with past purchases and will continue to buy them. It is lovely to look through the window of the bag to see the colours and patterns, and even better when you open it up and get a good look .

I am a bit addicted to Moda scrap bags but its up to luck what you get. Some are all selvedges and need to be cut down (anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5 inches) unless you want selvedges . These are the newer ranges;usually the same collection in each bag, sometimes not even released yet, leftover from cutting layer cakes etc. Others are 2.5" strips (usually the older ranges, often mixed bags). You might get a childrens' or Halloween range, so be prepared. They don't work out much cheaper than buying jelly rolls, for the amount of usable fabric that you get.

Pleasantly surprised all fabric strips were theme related, various designs, colours. Widths varied most over 2.5" to 3.5", very few under, and not many with selvedges on.

This really is a ‘lucky dip’! It’s a bit like opening a Christmas present, you don’t have a clue to what’s inside. What you do know is that it’s a selection of sizes of fabric from Moda which has to be good. The sizes and patterns vary, your challenge then is what you are going to make! Please don’t expect a Jelly Roll, you are getting a selection of Moda fabrics at a great price. If you are looking for a Jelly Roll then buy one! I made a quilt from my first two scrap bags adding a plain white for the sashing and border. My first ever attempt at a quilt, not perfect but as they say, ‘experience is something you get by making mistakes the first time’!

Slightly disappointed that so many pieces were block colours, only 2 patterned.
