Navigating their website was a super easy! Found tons of useful info and really smooth booking process. And let me shout out to Jane – their customer service is great! Always got back to me within 24 hours and were crazy helpful. Seriously, do yourself a favor and book your trip through them.

They say a lot can be said about a company by the way they handle their mistakes... well, Discovery Nomads should really take another look at their Customer Service staff and response protocols because what they do now REALLY SUCKS. People pay a huge amount of money to get SUBPAR planning and customer service. My friend and I did the Sydney to Melbourne tour and planned the trip 3 months in advance. Here is a summary of the issues in which NO ONE took any responsibility nor tried to make amends. 1) All of our reservations were under the wrong name of my friend which had been corrected to them well in advance. I also never asked for my reservations to be under her name. We just let them know that we were traveling together. 2) They arranged for us to take a 4am train with no help in getting transportation to the train station that was 40 minutes away... when we asked Discovery Nomads, they sent us a bus schedule (that showed no buses running). (This was in a very small town and you also had to have/subscribe to a local taxi company with no guarantee that one would show). The front desk person couldn't even secure us a taxi and offered to come back to the hotel after hours to drive us! 3) For 3 months, our itinerary showed that we were going out on a boat excursion on the Great Barrier Reef on Christmas Day- a DREAM COME TRUE- plus I’m a diver so even more special. We also paid for the helicopter ride. The timing is also very important because we were set to fly on the 27th to Uluru and it is necessary to allow 24 hours to pass before you flight after diving. My friend and I arrived in Cairns on the 24th so excited for the GBR on Christmas Day and then exploring the area and shopping on Boxing Day. Because of how things had been handled previously by Discovery Nomads, I just decided to call the company that our reef tour was booked with on Christmas Day to confirm that I would be able to dive. When I called, the company picked up and said they had no idea who I was, did not have record of our names, confirmation number and also said THEY ARE CLOSED ON CHRISTMAS. Massive confusion. The itinerary had NO information other than the phone # in which they had no idea who I was. I wrote to Discovery Nomads telling them the situation and asking what was going on. Discovery Nomads response- Hi Meagan, The GB tour is scheduled on Dec 26 and the reservation is under Camren name. (NOT ANYONE’s NAME- her MIDDLE name is CARMEN) I apologize for the confusion. Caroline THAT IS IT- ON CHRISTMAS EVE when this has been scheduled for 3 months! I wrote back saying I was upset about the mistake and upset about the diving situation- I would not be able to dive on the 26th, with my flight being on the 27th. The diving on the GBR has been my life long dream. Discovery Nomads Response- Hi Meagan, Everything is closed on Dec 25th and you wont find any activities in Airlie or Cairns. To stay in Airlie the approx extra cost would have been 450 EUR. You will have an opportunity for diving on tour on Dec 26. Best regards, Caroline I was DEVASTATED! My friend and I then went to try to figure something out- we didn’t want to having nothing to do on Christmas Day in Australia. Long story short- we went up to Reef Experience on the boardwalk and they had a boat going out on Christmas Day (we did have to spend an extra $400) but didn’t care and it was amazing- better than the one that Discovery Nomads scheduled for us on the 26th. I was able to dive in the end. But what a HUGE stress to have to deal with and navigate on Christmas Eve ON VACATION. 4) THEN! On the 26th, we went on the Discovery Nomads arranged in which we had paid for the helicopter ride over the GBR. We were very excited- neither of us had done this before. My friend had bought special medicine for it. About an hour and half into the trip, I went and inquired with one of the crew members because nothing had been mentioned about it. She was surprised- “Oh, that was cancelled” We contacted the company several days ago to let them know. WHAT?! I wish I could say I was surprised… but at this point, it was just par for the course with this company. 5) And lastly, during the various exchanges with Discovery Nomads, I asked FOUR times to have a manager or supervisor to contact me to give some feedback and to make them aware of everything that had happened. After my 4th request, no one even responded. A little bit of organization, compassion and empathy would have gone a long way but was not seen in situation after situation. I will never use again nor recommend this unprofessional, unorganized, messy company.
