I bought the Ruby red ink to try it and to try the Edelstein fountain pen ink. I found it thin on colour a little washed out and quite a bright red. For the price it is expensive and not better than others I have tried. Dose not compare to the old parker Penman ink for quality. I also bought the Diamone Matador and this is much preferred to the Pelikan both in colour, darker red, and in pigment. Pen used was a Cross Townsend medium gold nib or the Pelikan. The Matador was used in my old Parker 45 medium nib.

I bought this ink a little while ago as I didn't have any red ink at all, and loved the look of this ink, both the hue and the bottle. The physical object is all you'd like it to be - Pelikan should sell uplit stands to show these inks off! The ink itself is stunning - simply one of the best inks I've ever used. It runs quite wet, keeps the pens very well, and has exquisite shading when used with broader nibs. I thought bright red would be a novelty, but it's been such a thrill writing with it that I've explored other reds (Diamine Red Dragon and Oxblood work particularly well with Edelstein Ruby for a nice set of red tones) and also bought all the other ink colours in the Edelstein range (from The Journal Shop, naturally!). There's not a colour in the range that isn't opulent, satisfying and usable. For ten pounds? It's a no brainer.
