These look and feel like beuatifully crafted notebooks. Thoughtfully put together; lovely papers, lovely colourways, lovely binding. I bought one of each paper type — as I was intrigued. I have been using the TSURU TSURU. Yes, it opens up flat, nicley — like an MD notebook does, but unlike an MD notebook, the pages start to fall out of the PERPANEP. The narrative accommpanying these books goes like this: "Because it opens so flat, the notebook can be used horizontally as a larger pad for drawing and sketching - sort of like an A4 sized pad. The cheesecloth binding means that you won't feel any dips in the centre of the notebook as you lay it open, so you can draw and sketch (or even write!) across the centre of the two-page spread." The pages are not stitched. The notebook is made from A4 sheets folded into A5 double pages which are arranged in a pile and gummed together by the cheesecloth binding. The pages have started to fall out of my book, this begins with the top three or four folded sheets. So it is less a notebook now and more a pile of loose leaf sheets which fall out when I open the book. It is clear that soon they will all have fallen out. Become ungummed. £16.99 is a fair price to pay for a notebook, but not for a notebook that falls apart. I'm fourteen pages (seven folded A4 sheets) in and the book is, well, not a book. So £50.97 for three books that will soon be folders containing loose sheets. Not books.
