Wonderful set of pencils. The colours are sublime, they are very refined and vintage looking. I was looking for a colour story, such as this, amongst the more well known brands (e.g. Faber-Castell Polychromos), but you often get the more usual colour sets, unless you buy the huge palettes. There are two caveats, however, with the Irojiten. 1. They best perfom on rougher paper as opposed to smooth ones. 2. They excell more with small, detailed work becasue they are less creamy and more on the hard side. Also, due to the hardness factor, it is best to lay down colour in soft layers and go over the area multiple times. The effects are really etherial, especially given the refind and so so so beautiful colour palette. I think both Irojiten and the creamy Polychromoses of this world have their own distinct place in an art studio. I would love to purchase the other 2 sets of Irojiten as well, but they gone out of stock. I hope the Journal Shop brings all of them back, especially given the reasonable price they are selling here.
