Lovely as always (although mine had been opened and the plastic wrapper had clearly been restuck down a few times, the spine “broken” and the front cover is also slightly bent.) For those wondering why there is so much fuss about these journals here’s what you get….FIVE diaries in one - yes, FIVE! In Tomoe River paper! Wonderful. Firstly a simple 3 year calendar (2019 on one side, 2018/2020 on the other) - you can’t do more than circle a date on this, but it is good for highlighting things like term time, major project duration, big holidays… Secondly 2019 month to a column, 3 columns to a side of A5 (year over 4 sides) - perfect for an overview. Enough room to write “Tommy’s Birthday” next to a date sort of thing. Thirdly 2019 month to a 2 side spread with each day having 7 x 8 squares of space (Hobonichi squares are 3.7mm squared) and a margin to the right and bottom for additional notes. Fourthly week to view (2 side spread), each day has a column with hourly markings from 5am to 4am. There is a right side margin with little monthly grid highlighting the week and giving an additional column for notes. Lastly is the day to a side section - each month has a different colour for the type and the (faint) grid. Each page shows date and day and has 5 check boxes at the top of the page, to the right are markings from 6am to 3am and that section is separated from the rest of the page by a slightly darker vertical line - however that can all be ignored as it is faint enough to write over if you’d like. At the start of each month is a blank page should you need extra space to write stuff! Why would you need 5 diaries in one? I’m sure you can think of reasons but here are my uses: 1 - annual calendar - I mark off the days I’m good and do my exercise. Red circle around the date does the trick. 2 - month to column - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays….that sort of thing gets noted here. 3 - month to 2 sides - here I track appointments for the family. 4 - week to view/column a day - somewhere for me to track the joys of my type 1 diabetes 5 - I’m self-employed - here I have room to keep track of my work, make notes for client meetings, write directions….also room for the odd personal note or if I need extra room from any of the other diaries. Absolutely perfect - keeping everything in one place! I’ve been using the Cousin for many years and have a cover from about 2013 which is still going strong. You can buy from Japan - you get a few added extras if you do (e.g. 3 colour pen) but you end up having to deal with customs charges, Royal Mail charges and it is so much simpler to buy from TJS. Good job guys, thank you!

This type of Hobonichi Diary is lovely. The cover is solid enough without adding too much weight, the pages are wonderfully lightweight Tomoe River paper which is an utter delight to use and the versatility within the diary is great too. You have multiple yearly calendars, a monthly overview going into the following year and the daily pages give you plenty of space to use as you see fit. The Hobonichi website gives you plenty of ideas as to how you can use the space to make this diary your own. I would highly recommend this diary for anyone wanting a dated diary that you can really put your own stamp on. I am hoping that The journal shop will stock the avec in the upcoming years
