“I struggled a little bit to start with welding thin steel (classic car bodywork) in Automatic mode. The appropriate settings did not give anywhere near satisfactory results. I got best performance by increasing the thickness setting to double that of the actual metal thickness. I discovered subsequently that advice in the full user manual suggests making increases as all values are based on 0.8mm filler wire (mine is 0.6). Not really "automatic" then I feel. Also, it still seemed to be occasionally unstable. It did work OK with a continuous weld. Maybe the issue is with tack welding. HOWEVER, reverting to manual, with a slight trimming of suggested values, it works perfectly. I'll have to work more auto mode or just forget it altogether for this application. Overall. I'm happy at the moment.”
