About Jericho Coffee Traders:

Kiwi James and his wife Lizzie had always been in love with the idea of having their own coffee business, often scheming about how they would go about starting it up.

The opportunity came in 2009 when they found a beautiful Vespa trike for sale on the side of the road, and both thought: “that needs a coffee machine on the back of it”! And so, Jericho Coffee Traders was born!

Now we have a thriving online business and three locations in Oxford, UK - our Espresso bar on the High Street, our Cafe at the Oxford Castle, and our Cafe & Roastery on Osney Mead - all serving delicious espresso and filter coffees accompanied by locally made pastries and cakes.

This experience was perfect for myself, a self-confessed coffee enthusiast. I learnt a little theory about coffee, had the chance to practice finding tastes in coffee and was able to compare and contrast different brewing methods. The whole thing was really well organised, very chilled and the leader of the experience was really friendly and obviously extremely knowledgable. A really great morning, would heartily recommend.

Had a great time on the Coffee Experience Course on 3rd March. The presenters were very knowledgeable, approachable and provided some intersting insights and useful tips. The venue was easy to access and intimate which gave the course that easy going style where nothing seemed too much trouble. Thanks very much for an excellant experience.

If you like/love coffee and have ever wanted to get the best out of your brewing method of choice and a better understanding of how the beans get from plantation to cup then this experience is for you! Thoroughly enjoyable with very knowledgeable and enthusiastic trainers. I highly recommend this experience.

My wife and I really enjoyed our Coffee Enthusiast Experience at Jericho Coffee Traders. We've been buying their coffee beans for a while, and enjoy trying to get the best out of our Sage Barista Express coffee machine, which allows a significant degree of manual control, so we thought it would be good to learn more. The time flew by, as our excellent host (a Thai lady called (I think) Sia or similar (I apologise for getting her name wrong!) took us through exactly how coffee goes from being grown globally to being processed and then locally roasted here in Oxford. Her level of knowledge was remarkable, and it turned out she has represented her country in international coffee tasting and grading! We tried various types of coffee preparation systems, including Aeropress and V60 and were tought how to evaluate the flavours and what to look for. We had a look around their roastery area behind the shop too and were able to choose some beans to take home. This only really scratches the surface of what we learned and we'd like to thank the team for a very informative and enjoyable experience.

It was an interesting am. I was not immediately welcomed with a coffee and pastry. The talk was ok. The presentation material on screen was very unclear in places ie, wrong coloured backgrounds so that it was unreadable. The speaker tried to cover an awful lot and it was too much for me. The demonstrations were ok and I could just follow what we were doing with timings and amounts. I was unable to taste much of a difference between flavours....probably me! I do not feel that I learnt very much but having said that I now have a better understanding of the world of coffee.

Very enjoyable and informative course. I learnt about where coffee came from around the world, the different types of bean and different ways to drink it. I very much enjoyed making my own!
