“I bought this in the hope that I would never need to use it but with a deep freeze full of food and a family member requiring power for medical devices it seemed to be a sensible approach.
I already have a small generator of another make, on opening the maintenance panel of the Champion my immediate thought was that it was of better quality - the panel securing screws on the other unit simply screw into plastic (which will chew up if the screws are over-tightened), on the Champion they screw into threaded metal inserts.
I have only (briefly) run it on propane. Starting was not straight-forward, after several pulls of the rope it was still not running. After 'resetting' the reducing valve (a process where you stick a thin piece of wire into a hole on the valve) it started on second pull.
Noise levels were as expected (even on full power) so no complaints there. The only reason for 4 stars is the reset procedure for the gas regulator which is a bit of a faff, other designs of regulator have a small button to do the same function so hopefully somebody will take note of this!”
