“I'm 73 yrs and was trying to relive childhood memories of visits to my Gran in Fifeshire. I've never forgotten the Scot's pies I devoured on the Kirkcaldy seafront on the occasion of the visits to my Gran when I was around 9yrs old. I remember the mutton flavour well and the 'grease' (fat) running down my chin!
Unfortunately these Campbells ones were a disappointment, being very bland and dry. It struck me that they lacked the traditional seasoning of the pies (even the Bell's ones we used to be able to buy down here).
Anyway on the second batch, which we put in the oven, I realised what one of the problems was.
They were short of pepper!!! So on went the pepper and also a little knob of butter in the lid hole! (we used to use water....but nowhere as good) This absolutely TRANSFORMED the flavour and juiciness. I have a feeling that they were not properly seasoned at all. One of the original ones we heated even had a local area with nutmeg flavour...the rest bland. A bit of quality control would help here, I think.
Service and delivery, however, was excellent with the courier even giving us an hour delivery band! The pies (I had some Lorne sausage as well) had quality packaging with ice bags and insulating/reflective liner. All was received in tip top condition to the South Coast of England, during this year's hyper heatwave.”
