The British F tuba from Wessex is a fantastic instrument. Very good intonation, very good response in all registers, great sound, especially considering its small size. An ideal instrument for solo and small ensembles. The valves also work very well. I would give it five stars if it weren't for two weak points, which don't interfere with playing, however: the metal is extremely thin (in keeping with the historical model), but this makes it very, very susceptible to dents. In addition, the lacquer is not good. After only three months, it came off in two places, even where the tuba rests on the thigh without skin contact.

dear wessex The tuba sounds wonderful. The intonation is superb. I often play it in a quartet. I'm not so sure about the fingerings because I usually play a 6-valve melton f tuba. The price-performance ratio is right for me.

I have not tried it in the opera or symphony yet so I can’t really say how in play’s in a bigger surrounding, But it’s great fun to play and the sound is different in good way. A bit like a euphonium on steroids. I’m trying to figure out the best way to sit and play it because it’s too short to rest on my lap. I’m leaning towards a hard cushion of some kind or maybe a bassoon strap. When I play it I’m a little flat on the first fifth (C) and on the high F so the intonation is different than my other horn’s (American and German BBb ,CC ,and F-Tuba’s) Compensating system works great, finish and valves looks and feels great. I love the Gold lacquer and I get a lot of compliments about how beautiful it looks. I can’t wait to try the V. Williams concerto with this horn.
