“This is my favorite instrument in the Wessex lineup. It could very easily be a tuba player's main instrument, or even only instrument. It's easy to produce a beautiful sound, similar to the best 4/4 BBb or CC tubas, but without needing as much air and with a much easier high range. Intonation is also much easier than any F tuba I've ever played. Having all four valves in the right hand makes for an easy transition from other instruments with the same layout, while also providing all the advantages of a fully-compensating instrument. If you do all of your playing in wind bands, brass bands, quintets or other chamber groups, this could easily be the only instrument you need to own. In a symphony orchestra like the one I play in, it makes a great choice anytime you want to 'downsize', whether it be for Brahms, French repertoire, or a pops concert.”
