I'm absolutely "over the moon" with my new (slightly used) Wessex Wyvern Tuba! This incredible instrument far surpassed my expectations (and I was already expecting it to be fantastic)! It's truly an amazing horn. The lower register is big and powerful, without having to exert much extra effort. The mid range is full and resonant - very solid - exactly what you need in that "bread & butter" register. I'm still getting used to the upper register however this entire horn blows very open and freely... no stuffiness anywhere at all on this horn. I'm getting a warm, full-bodied, rich tone overall... well designed, great craftsmanship... I've been a tuba player most of my life - tuba major in college and a professional free-lance player here in Southern California for decades. I've played a number of brands and models, but I have to admit, I am extremely excited about my Wessex Wyvern Tuba. Can't wait to hit the stage and studio with this beauty! I can't say enough good things about this tuba! YOU GOTTA TRY IT! You won't be disappointed! I can't thank Jonathon and the entire Wessex Team enough for overseeing the design and manufacturing of this magnificent horn. This is my second Wessex Tuba - and I couldn't be prouder to be a Wessex Tubist!

Wyvern is my main tuba. I use it in the band, and in the quintet and sextet. My tuba is easy to play in all registers and very well in tune. I bought mine in 2017, and the only thing I do not like is the 5th valve trigger location, but that has changed on the new model.

My tuba professor told me I was far enough along in my studies that I should buy my own tuba. I searched many different brands, both new and used. Wessex sparked my interest; I could buy a new instrument for roughly the same price as a used horn. I am so glad I went this route; the response of this instrument is outstanding. The clarity of range from high and low is remarkable. It has added so much more to my brass quintet and brass choir. My sound has increased and my solo rep sounds amazing. I was not used to the weight of this instrument at first, but I didn't care since I was becoming a better musician with this tuba. Highly recommend for college students looking to purchase a quality instrument or those returning to tuba after a break. Just an overall great instrument.

I have had this horn for over 2.5 years and I still love it. It plays great the valves are high quality and the sound is excellent.. The only issue I have had is with some of lacquer flaking off.

I purchased this horn after trying it at TMEA. I was in the market for a front piston 5/4 CC tuba and I tried the wyvern and some other popular horns and knew I had to buy the wyvern! It has such a beautiful, rich, open low register, and a smooth, singing high register! It’s is a fantastic tuba that play great! It is well worth the purchase, in my opinion. It has a rich and vibrant sound and has no dead notes. The tuning is spot on. It’s just a really fun instrument to play. I’m absolutely in love with my new wyvern. I will recommend this horn to ANYONE that is looking to buy a new tuba. Great job Wessex!
