The tuba was great from the start. No issues with valves or slides. The valves are quiet and sound is quite resonant. Spit ALWAYS goes to the spit valve. Never have to bother with emptying other slides which I know is an issue on many other styles and brands. Bought in 2018 - Still going well in 2023.

I would give it full 5 stars but for two exceptions. For the price range, this is a wonderful instrument. Its tone and response are very satisfying, and it plays well. The finish and workmanship are all superb. The case is better than many. This is probably all the tuba I will ever need. My two exceptions: For the low A-flat and G it's oddly difficult to find the center of the note. I suspect that all instruments have their quirks, and this is the quirk on my Anton. Whether it's an anomaly, or has to do with the design, I can't say... I suspect the former, but would have to play other examples to say for sure. Also, where the receiver meets the lead pipe, the joint is not air-tight. Maybe pin-holes in the solder? Anyway, you can force air through the holes, and after playing a while water droplets blow out and spatter onto the bell. (Yes, it's coming from the joint of the receiver, and not sloppy blowing on my part.) I'm told this is bad because it can lead to mold growing in the joint, possibly corroding it further. I think this is just a small oversight in the final check. I understand our local luthier can fix it in a moment, possibly for no charge. All that said, I'm overjoyed with my instrument. Gotta go now... I want to play some more!
