The TC236 is a most interesting instrument. Wessex has done a fantastic job producing this euphonium/tuba hybrid. Don't let the size fool you. It may be small but it is mighty with a good low register and a strong euphonium type upper register when using the tuba size mouthpiece. It plays equally well with either a tuba or euphonium mouthpiece. The intonation is very good. This instrument is perfect for playing the works of the French Composers. As an amateur tuba player I'm finding this instrument easy to play. Does require a well condition tuba embouchure to play it with the provided tuba mouthpiece. Wessex is excellent in taking care of any problems. My horn had a problem, Wessex addressed it under warranty and within 1 1/2 weeks I had the horn back with the problem resolved, repaired to my satisfaction. Couldn't ask for any more from Wessex. Thanks Wessex.

Hello, as requested I send a short review of the recently purchased Wesswx French C tuba TC 236 P. The instrument arrived well packaged, inside a semi-rigid case with handle and shoulder straps with a large external pocket and a zipped compartment on the other side useful for putting the scores. Included were 2 mouthpieces, one euphonium format and one tuba, oil, springs and spare guides, cloth, pencil and a cap with the effigy of the dragon and the inscription wessex. In my opinion it would have been useful if there was a small compartment inside the case to put some objects, such as oil, cloth, pencil. The instrument looks very nice, with an impeccable silver plating: we will see over time if it will be consistent enough to resist wear. I didn't notice any engraved serial numbers, just the TC236P engraving on the mouthpiece receiver. The pistons are free and sliding, the slides can move with the right smoothness; appreciated the air vent hole on the pistons. I found it a bit difficult to screw the piston caps back on, as you can't get the thread into the right starting position. The ergonomics are excellent, the valves for the left hand are easily reached and the right hand is positioned naturally so that there is no stress on the wrist and fingers. The instrument sounds good, free except for a few notes that sound a bit strange (F #, G # in the staff). The overall pitch is slightly low, reaching pitch A = 440 with difficulty. In bands where I play the pitch is set to A = 442, so I would need a shorter main pitch slide to have a wider range of adjustment. The overall intonation is quite good, with the exception of the fifth partial which is very low and requires a lot of lip effort or alternative positions to be in tune. Overall a very well built instrument with which I will have a lot to have fun with.
