“This is an extremely fun instrument. I actually really enjoy the tone quality and it is better than I thought in that regard. The response is also WAY better than I was expecting, for something so small and tightly wrapped I am very impressed with out it isn't too stuffy. It is wild holding something so small and fun to play. I was also super impressed with the rotors. This tuba was in transit for a couple of weeks (I think due to customs) and I was fully expecting to have to knock the rotors loose, this was not the case. The rotors are smooth fast and silent for the few weeks I have been using them. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is the tuning. Even with the tuning slide all the way in the C in the staff is aggresively flat. With the slide all the way in I can get the C and G below the C in the staff more or less in tune, maybe still a bit flat. The tuba ships with a second tuning slide, but this one is longer than the other one so it wouldn't help in this situation. I bought this tuba as a practice tool and a fun little horn. It serves that purpose wonderfully, if the tuning were better I would consider bringing it to some ensembles for gigs in stranger locations.”

We are pleased you enjoy the instrument, but are surprised you find plays flat, as this problem has not been reported by any customer before, and we play tested checking tuning in quality assurance at time of manufacture. Maybe you are using too large mouthpiece which could cause this problem?

“I discover Wessex Tubas with the purchase of the mighty gnome CC Travel Tuba. Everything went well for the delivery (2 weeks delay). My first contact with the tuba is excellent. I intend to use it in small marching bands. I hope to have fun! I am very satisfied!”

“I am having so much fun with this little tuba. By using the music that I bought with it, I am able to practice in my apartment building without anybody hearing me. That is extremely exciting to me. What a wonderful way to be able to practice each day without disturbing my neighbours by playing Prokofiev or Wagner. I just love this little thing, the valves respond beautifully, and I’m even able to use it in church with my praise band. Thank you so much for making such a great tuba.”

“Having played tuba for a few years (not quite professionally, just in school) this instrument plays just about as well as another instrument. I tested this model at a convention before purchasing and loved it. Now I have an instrument that I can take to lessons with my trombone (my primary instrument) that isn't a full size tuba... with a blocky trombone case... with my music bag... with... As far as sound/tone goes; it is about what you would expect but not to the degree you would expect. It is a smaller instrument. But I believe the sound and more based on the player than this instrument. This instrument will not do you any favors on tone, but you can get it out of it with some practice. Tuning tendencies are what I believe are normal but I have only ever played one other CC tuba before. So I don't want to speak too much to that point. Hope this helps.”
