I have found the tuba to be free blowing with good intonation and a warm, clear and resonant sound across the entire range. It works well playing in band, orchestral, and quartet settings. The build quality, fit and finish are generally good. On closer scrutiny, some parts - such as the rotor stop arms - are not as precisely made as some more expensive European-made instruments, but when considered against the price point are acceptable. The case, although well made, seems very large in comparison with the overall size of the instrument. It provides good protection but is difficult to get into anything other than a very large estate car. A soft case is more practical for everyday use. The option to purchase the tuba with either a hard or soft case would be helpful. Overall, I am pleased with this tuba and believe that it provides good value for money. Customer service has been good. A small issue with one of the rotors was quickly resolved. The purchase was also easy and shipping in the UK was fast.

I received the tuba a couple of weeks ago and am quite pleased with it. It is quite free blowing with an especially nice weight in the sound from F below the staff for a couple of octaves+. Playing is quite effortless up through a high Bb and the intonation is good. It seems like a horn which will be good for solo playing as well as in a large band/orchestra.

Definitely a very good instrument, considering the price. The construction is solid, but not too heavy. For my height (1m75, 5'9") it fits very well on my lap for playing and can be handled comfortably. Sound emission is pretty easy and the tone is full and round, very pleasing. Works well in a concert band, as well as in a quintet. The fifth valve for low notes is welcome (even though it's still a bit outside my range, currently). The case is very good too, and that was a strong selling argument for me. Two minor gripes: high C-D are pretty low and generally need alternate fingerings, nothing critical, but needs a bit of time to accomodate. Additionally, although the lacquer seems pretty good overall, the "chrome" on the paddles tarnishes easily. In conclusion, I'm totally happy with that tuba and I'm convinced I'll enjoy playing it for quite some time.

In the era of COVID isolation, this tuba was a Godsend, I am a trombonist with a contrabass and cimbasso, so the tuba was the next musical dimension. The upper range is a pure delight, and the round-bottomed basso blotto range is a joy (after I got a Denis Wick mouthpiece). I enjoy feeling the air and resonance of the instrument as I play. The rotor action is also rapid and the horn is mechanically well constructed. As noted by other reviewers, the slides are slow but replacing grease with oil should be done with care: machining is so well done that the slides may slip out when turning the horn upside down. You might add a Velcro cord to constrict movement of slides.

I've used it for a two month, that is very awesome and beautiful sounds! The price is very efficient. This is rotary valves, so this needs more care. But, the mobility is so surprising. I think this is very good choice for any beginners and semi-pro.

This 5/4 Tuba is a great horn for the price. The contra bass range of this tuba is fantastic. I was expecting this horn to take a great deal of wind due to its size, but I was pleasantly surprised, especially in the low range. Compared to my Army issue Miraphone, the Luzern tuba is much easier to play. Pedal tones are so easy to play. I'm overall, very pleased with my purchase. Only one small issue: The linkage adjusting screws were slightly bent when the horn was delivered. Not seriously enough to affect their function. A great value and an excellent sound. I highly recommend this horn to anyone looking to buy a new Tuba. Do yourself a favor and consider the Wessex instrument line. They're a fine product.

The tuba was lovely, but unfortunately I had to send back because the space issues in my house. All the transaction to send back was very smooth and I was refunded very quick. I highly recommend Wessex. Thank you.
