Overall amazing instrument. Even though the tuning may be funny once it’s fresh out of the case for the first time, it plays just fine after a little getting used to, as with any other tuba. It’s great for playing in a jazz group - especially one that travels often - due to its small size, making it very convenient for transport. Most definitely would recommend.

Practice, practice, practice - Right now that horn is better than I am. I'd never owned my own tuba before and I haven't played in a long time, and it shows. It's a beautiful thing, lovely valve action, it sits perfectly on my lap, has a nice tone (when I can get my lip to work, that's my problem not the tuba's) I have to get up to speed, let my hair grow, then hit the road and live the rock and roll lifestyle, which for a band with a horn section, like Chicago or the Buckinghams, this tuba is perfect for. Everyone who sees it is impressed and I send them to your web site. Very happy, Love - Tom

I am an amateur tuba player, and play with several local community groups. I was looking for a smaller tuba as I get older to make it easier to get to and from gigs and rehearsals. This looked like the perfect solution. It is a lot lighter than the full size BBb I had been using, but I found it hard to hold for any period of time. Using a neck strap is necessary with it for me. The case it comes with is lighter than the hard case with my other tubas, but still big, and bulky and inconvenient to get into and out of my car. A gig bag is a must with this. It seems well made and has a good, resonant sound, but I couldn't get it to play in tune. For me, the middle range was about 20 cents flat. I could "lip it" up to be almost in tune, but that meant using an uncomfortable embouchure. I tried many different mouthpieces, but had similar results. I do find that it is very sensitive to which mouthpeice you use. Overall, this is a good tuba for someone looking to play with a smaller horn using a strap, if it plays in tune for you.

I chose this instrument after issues with my shoulders prevented me from handling my Yamaha 321 which I loved. The Mini Jazz tuba allows me to keep playing within my physical limitations and weight restrictions. I don't mind the "stuffy" resistance of the horn and the tone and response of the instrument is not what I am used to but the more I play it, the better it gets. I do love the front facing rotary valves and the short key stroke. I play in a small 20 member community band and a 100+ member community band and at 81 y/o can hang in there with the rest of them.

Absolutely loving not having to haul my Imperial around to practice sessions? Great sound on this Jazz version - just wish i had a lighter less bulky case

Maybe consider the new B162 gig bag to lighten the load further?

When I received the horn, I was pleased with the instrument. It would have been helpful for some type of paperwork to accompany it that briefly described some of the features this horn had that other ones don’t.

I'm absolutely loving my Mini Jazz tuba. It holds its own in the local New Orleans-style brass band I play in. I use is most when the band is in close quarters walking in crowds. The case that comes with the tuba is mighty heavy, so I contacted David at Messina Covers - https://messinacovers.com - and he custom-made for me a 3.5 lbs soft gig bag that perfectly fits the Mini Jazz tuba and makes transporting the tuba to gigs much easier and more enjoyable. David will be happy to make the same bag for other Mini Jazz tuba players.
