I'm loving this smaller instrument. My only concern is tone quality and in all honesty I've had some recent oral surgery, which probably has a lot to do with my embechure and tone. Time will tell. My lower lip is still numb.

Never received the tuba. It apparently arrived to facility with a damaged bell. I needed the Instrument and asked if I could take it at a discount and was denied. Haven't been followed up with since refund. Disappointing. I was excited to add the tornister to my arsenal.

Unfortunately the bell got badly damaged in shipping. It was too bad to sell. Please look on website for more TB160 stock coming available in the next few months. Sorry you had this bad experience, but unfortunately shipping damage does occasionally occur, despite our best efforts to prevent.

I bought my TB160 from Wessex early last year, and am mostly pleased. It's a great "toy" that serves a functional purpose, primarily for me an option to stay "in shape" when on vacation. Its size is (obviously) its main draw, and it's nice to be able to kick back in a recliner and just noodle. Overall, the sound is quite nice, and the upper—and, counterintuitively, lower—registers are nice and easy-blowing. Pitch is acceptable all around as well. There are a few caveats. The octave from the C in the bass clef staff up to middle C is quite difficult—stuffy, doesn't slot well, pitchy. My accuracy in this register is much, much worse than on a full-sized instrument. This is obviously a function of the instrument's tight wrap (necessitated by its size), but it still makes it my last choice for any actual performing. There are also a handful of quality control issues (i.e. the use of screws instead of bearings in the valve set) that are disappointing. The case itself is also not well-constructed—within a month, one the the supports fell off the bottom and the screw hole has enlarged, so repair isn't possible. Having said this, I'm very glad I purchased it, and it's become quite useful, especially for the price point. When traveling, it's nice to have something more robust than just a mouthpiece, yet significantly smaller than a full-sized tuba. Having said that, its performance applications seem limited.

The tuba being so small is going to require more work than a full size tuba. That is one of the benefits of these as a practice tuba, as the full size horn then feels a lot easier. I am not sure of your comment of screws instead of bearings, as that is not true. This is constructed the same as any other rotary valve tuba. I think you have just misunderstood the construction. For the case, we can send you a replacement. Email me a maestro@Wessex-tubas.com and I will then get sorted. Jonathan
