“The sopranino saxophone I received from Wessex is a great little instrument that can probably compete with the more expensive specimens of its kind. Like other sopraninos, it is a lot of fun to play, but intonation gets tricky in the upper register and will require a lot of practice. The instrument is well built. There are a few tool marks and signs of welding visible in some hidden areas but overall, it looks very nice. All the keys do their job, it comes in a nice case and the mouthpiece is fully functional as well, but cannot be adjusted and thus tuned beyond about the middle of the cork on the neck. Both sopranino and soprano reeds can be used. The case contains some brass specific accessories (valve oil); instead it could use some cork grease and a specific pull-through swab. The strap it came with is waaay to long even for a soprano let alone a sopranino; would be nice to include a strap that actually works with the small size of such a special and rare instrument. But these are just suggestions to improve an instrument that is really great fun to play and absolutely worth the price. The good folks at Wessex were very responsive to my inquiries, double checked the instrument and processed my order in a quick manner. I would absolutely make this purchase again and recommend it to anyone who wants to branch out into the sopranino sax with a nice and quality controlled instrument that doesn't break the bank.”
