It has more resistance than the real TR4501, a richer sound, and a more stable mid-low range. The slide position is the furthest in the world.

Very pleased with the purchase. Trombone has a nice soft jazz tone. Reaching the upper register is very easy. Nice slide action. Nice lightweight case included.

The PB4501 P arrived well packaged and without any issues. Opened it up to reveal a beautiful horn and quickly put together to give it a blow. After playing for some time I found this horn to have a sweet well centered sound that was easy to blow in all registers. Played very nicely in the upper register and was surprisingly responsive on the bottom end. Overall I am really enjoying this instrument. Well done Wessex! Only flaw, it did not come with the gold plated mouthpiece as stated in the ad. Minor issue, still very pleased with this horn.

I have had my PB4501 for about 3 months, after many months of waiting (due to COVID problems). A good tone and looks. Perhaps could use a counterweight as I often use a mute. Has some worrying blemishes on the slide/water key solder as they might foretell some corrosion problems in the future.

Recieved the horn today and am very happy with what I recieved. Horn is beautiful to look at and played very well. More to come on that as I have time to really give it a workout. However I did find it very responsive and easy to slot into notes in all octives. Certainly a pleasure to play. Only disappointment was mine didn't come with a gold plated mouthpiece that is mentioned on the web site. Anyway, I am loving it and looking forward to oportunities to solo on it. Thanks for this quality trombone!

Hi Johnathan, I thought I should drop you a line and say that I’m having an absolute ball playing one of your Jazz Trombones. I normally play a large bore custom Shires, costing about 6 1/2 k (dual bore with bass trombone and tenor trombone bore sized slide for most of my orchestral stuff and trombone quartet stuff,) but I’ve been messing around with the jazz trombone and doing some recordings of an Eva Cassidy song at home and I’m really impressed with the instrument. I hope you are surviving the COVID thing OK, Mark Welch

The PB 4501 is now made in the Wessex High Grade facility and it shows. From the seamless rose brass bell to the clean solder joints to the precision hand slide alignment, it has everything you would expect from a professional grade instrument. The trombone has the qualities of a thin bell light weight trombone - effortless agility, quick response clear Bel Canto upper register - but at the same time has the traits of an instrument much heavier, with great dynamic range maintaining composure without breaking up. This is an ideal instrument for lead parts in big band or small jazz combo. Whether you play Teagarden or Turk Murphy this instrument is worthy of anyone’s short list at any price!
