Helo Wessex Team, thank you for asking me about my new Wessex Helicon. 1) The transfer from south England to south Germany took moore than two weeks. I.e. the distance between UK and the continent is (regarding the tranfer time) as long as from China to Germany. But I can stand that if the Bexit is that much better for the UK. 2) The valves all jammed. Especially valve 4. I did not get it smooth running with oil, I used fine abrasive to hone it and make it running. The piston jammed in the lower part of the bore as if the lower part was some microns smaller. Now it is running smoothly. Regarding the long time of transfer I did not think of sending it back. The instrument is good now and I am now familiar with it. Good sound and good in tune. The initial impression about the jamming valves don`t allow me to give 5 stars. Sorry. I have a good instrument now. Please send me a bill. Best regards Uli Schmitz

The mouthpiece hits me right in the middle of my forehead ! ! ! So, my Brand new Wessex BBb Helicon is in the shop for some not-so-minor surgery. It will not be ready until September!

That sounds very strange. The two bits enable putting the mouthpiece at correct height for you. Please email picture to maestro@Wessex-tubas.com

Because of the current quarantine I have not be able to use my new Helicon in a group setting or public performance (my ultimate test of a new horn.) However, the build quality is very good, the horn plays in tune throughout the normal range, it has a nice full tone to my ears, the valves work nicely, and I think it looks great. There may be a slight problem with the angle of the gooseneck for me, but that will take longer time playing to be sure if there is a real issue or not. I have owned and played various helicons since 1978, some new, some vintage - this is the first new piston valve helicon I have owned. Should be interesting - I may change my rating in the future as the situation allows.
