The horn was a gift for my wife, who played in high school. She loves it, and is in the process of re-learning through a basic method book and on-line recordings for play along. It’s a fantastic value.

I bought this for my granddaughter. My son is in college on a French horn scholarship so we asked him to review. The handguard was in the way of the thumb trigger so we cut it off. There's no spit valve. Sound is fine. Give 3.5 stars

She loves it. It plays so good and is beautiful to look at. She used it to try out for her all district band try outs. She made third chair concert band. It was well worth the wait to get it. Beautifull craftsmanship and well made.

I am a trumpet player and longtime musician transferring to the French horn. The Wessex Bb/F Double French Horn FH601 P Gold Brass Lacquer is perfect for my purpose. The tone is excellent, the valves and rotors are smooth and quiet, and the tuning slides fit correctly. The slides are not too tight nor are they too loose. I can move them as needed. The customer service I received from Wessex is also excellent. They kept in close contact with me as the instrument was shipped from the UK to the US. In case anybody wonders, the FH601 P does not come with a spit valve. As far as that is concerned, I am glad to learn how to manipulate the instrument to remove condensation that builds up from playing. I find that action to be quite interesting. My private horn instructor, who has played with and still plays in many symphonies and philharmonics in the US was not familiar with the Wessex brand but has appreciated what I am able to do with the horn. Although the Wessex French horn is less familiar in the United States, I highly recommend it for beginning and at least intermediate use. It may, also, be very good for advanced and professional use, too. I am just not able to perform at a level where I can judge that at this point. Thank you for creating this excellent horn, Wessex!

I had a few minor problems(mouthpiece fit and Bb/F key) with my particular copy but Wessex's support team was exceptional in getting them resolved quickly. French Horn is not my main instrument but, like any instruments from that region, if you manage to get a good copy, you'll have a perfectly usable double horn for an absolute steal. I'd give Wessex five stars for support and would buy a euphonium or tuba from them in a heartbeat.

great horn overall but would recommend a slightly shorter tuning slide to allow for better tuning in cold weather.

For the price of a student Horn, you get the value of a professional Horn. The small details like the mechanical linkages, leather grip, and adjustable pinky ring and hand rest are a wonderful addition as well. Even the case is great. It’s wonderful
