I bought this instrument to replace my King Flugabone which allows me to play it with my left hand. Your horn does not allow me to grab the valves securely with my left (while I'm playing my keyboard with my right). More sereously, the valves are sluggish and valve oil does not fix it. I really would like to return the instrument for a refund.

Finger buttons are not that good, because of the embedded logo there is dirt which is not easy for cleaing, material like mother of pearl would be better. water valves are bad of quality, very cheap with this plastic cover.

I have bought two instruments so far from Wessex and I think they are brilliant. I love that the company is innovative, making instruments away from the norm. Value for money and customer service is also brilliant. I am hoping to purchase further instruments in the future from the company as feel very confident in the service I will receive going forward. Well done all at Wessex.

This new flugelbone is beautiful, appears to be well constructed with a nice hardshell case. Blows more freely than my old Bach Mercedes which has a smaller bore (back-pressure), so the Wessex has a better low range and projects a bit better than the Bach. However, I like the mid-range tone of the Bach better. Each horn requires a compromise. One disappointment, as received, the second and third valves were switched (fortunately the valves and casings are numbered) and this factory still has problems with machining of the valve cap/casing threads- caution and patience needed to not cross thread the valves. Could be a challenge for students.

Great price. Definitely is not as bright of a sound as my trombone, particularly in the low range. But it’s brighter and more trombone-like than any of the other comparable instruments that I tried at the Wessex showroom in Chicago (valve trombone, marching baritone, bass trumpet). The main disadvantage of a flugabone vs. a baritone or marching baritone is that the small bore size doesn’t give much room for water to accumulate before you start to get the brass instrument "gurgle." Also, as a trombone player, I’m finding it a chore to clear the water from the instrument. Water gets into places that have no water key, so I have to flip the instrument over and over to get water out the bell. Also, this particular instrument is flat. With the main tuning slide pushed all the way in, I'm only just barely in tune, but still on the flat side. What I like about it: trombone-like sound, but with valves. More open and bright of a sound than the valve trombone I tried at Wessex. Lighter and easier to hold up for long periods of time than the marching baritone.
