I played for years in a Confederate brass band. Although the CR15 is a modern precision instrument, it is similar to the antique horn that I had with that group. It's a lot of fun. I also have the Wessex piston cornet. I have really enjoyed that horn.

This is a beautiful instrument. Even the case is impressive1 The rotary valves are fast. The fit and finish are impeccable, which is what I have come to expect from Wessex. The tone is full and it is easy to play. I own several Wessex instruments (Wagner tuba, German tenor horn, tenor herald trumpet) and I have been very pleased with them. I also have the rotary flugelhorn on order. I recommend the instruments to all my students. David Steinman, Ph.D.

I’ve had my lacquered CR15 rotary valve cornet for a few weeks and it’s become my everyday horn. I find the horn very easy to hold and operate. The sound is mellow and intonation throughout my range is really quite good. Fit and finish are excellent, valve operation is smooth due to well-made linkages and the slides as well as the leadpipe tuning operate perfectly. I assumed that I would need to search for a suitable mouthpiece since I rarely stick with factory mouthpieces, but the included CR2 mouthpiece is just perfect with this horn. No search needed! As an aside, I often play with a practice mute and the Wallace Studio mute works very well. I enjoy playing my CR15 rotary valve cornet so much, that I’m planning to buy another in silver plate. Well done, Wessex!

It just came! What a beautiful instrument. The case is impressive, but a little over padded. I think that will resolve over time. The instrument is what I have come to expect from Wessex. Great fit and finish. The tone is mellow and it is easy to blow. The valves are as fast as I can handle. The instrument is light. It is easy to hold. I used the stock mouthpiece, which worked fine for me-up to double high C without effort. I use a callichio mouthpiece on my trumpet, but I have been able to use the stock mouthpieces on all but the tenor herald trumpet, for which I used a Schilke. I own several Wessex instruments, and I recommend them to all my students. They are beautiful, well made and a bargain. I have a rotary valve flugelhorn on order and I can't wait!
