I bought this unusual Instrument for two reasons: 1) I use it as demonstration object in trumpet lessons. I can easily show to the young trumpeters how long a Bb trumpet really is when the tubing is not curved. Since it is a natural trumpet in Bb you can also demonstrate the harmonic series and the need for a longer instrument if you want to play melodic without going to high. Then you can go on to explain the longer natural trumpet from the baroque aera and its characteristics. 2) Once a year we have a large medieval festival in our little town in Germany and I normally play a standard E flat fanfare on this occasion. I think this one will be a with a welcome enrichment and it will look really cool with a banner attached. All in all a very useful instrument of very good quality. Additional comment: Wessex makes some good natural instruments, the best example is the natural horn with crooks supplied for all useful keys. I wish they would also consider to make a "real" natural trumpet (without holes) with an equally versatile set of crooks supplied. I think of (low) Bb, C, D and E flat (standard fanfare pitch). That would be really cool. Some weeks ago I bought such an intrument from a Taiwanese company (...you can guess...) but I think Wessex with the British knowledge in the background could do it better. The German ones are really good but very expensive.
