Rieker’s Doris are a versatile range of high front slip-ons designed for casual, every day wear by more mature ladies who prioritise comfort and versatility while maintaining a preference for style. Doris is available in a white and silver leather combination, in black and taupe printed leather, in sand printed leather, in a denim and floral print, and finally in an abstract pewter and taupe floral print. Doris has a broad length of leather that runs down the centre of the foot, outlined by neat rows of contrast coloured double-track stitching and decorated by a line of six bold stitched crosses. From this centre piece four bands of leather radiate out to meet the sole. These softly mould to the natural shape of your foot and are made all the more accommodating due to two small bands of elastic incorporated into the band nearest the top of your foot. Cut-out sections between these bands and side shafts of the shoe add attractive negative spaces to the design of Doris, leaving sections of your feet exposed and cool in the warm Summer weather. These comfy slip-ons have a flat, flexible and shock absorbing sole unit which curves slightly in at the arch and out again to form a low, curved 3.5cm heel. The sole curves up at the toe to facilitate the natural forward rolling motion of your feet as you walk and simultaneously protects the leather upper from wear. Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
