Cayla is a comfortable, casual open bar shoe with an upper made from a tactile combination of leather and suede. Cayla is available in a combination of turquoise-green and denim-blue or a light, earthy taupe-brown. The band of suede leather starts at the ankle and follows the contour of the shoe around the toe. This is separated from the leather upper by a row of thick, single track stitching in a subtle off-white thread. The stitching ends in three square blocks that add an unusual and distinct element to the design. The suede leather is used again around the heel of the upper, forming a thickly padded arc that holds your foot securely and comfortably in position. Cayla has a single strap that starts on the outside of the foot at the toe, wraps diagonally across the foot where it threads through a loop and wraps back across the foot to velcro fasten at the ankle. The strap is adjustable, allowing you to tighten or loosen the fit and making the shoe easy to slip on and off. Contributing to their extremely comfortable fit, Cayla has a soft, smooth leather and textile lining including a removable insole that offers additional padding under the heel and arch of your foot. This tops the low, flat 1.5cm PU sole unit which offers flexibility and support. Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
