Soft-1 is a classic trainer shoe from Ecco, well loved by our customers, 400503 is available in a wide range of colours and finishes. There is a colour for everyone. Maximising the comfort of this trainer, thick padding is incorporated into the upper around the ankle. Outlining this, a double stitched seam runs down onto the vamp of the shoe, framing the adjustable lace fastening before flowing down towards the rounded toe. This works to create an active, sporty design that is reinforced by the black ‘ecco’ and white ‘Danish Design’ tag that is stitched into the top of the tongue. Reinforcing this philosophy, Soft 1 has an anatomically designed insole that offers support under the arch and ball of your foot, as does the flexible and shock absorbing PU sole unit. This rubbery sole sits 2.5cm at the heel and is topped by a cushioned insole that can be removed and replaced with an orthotic if necessary. Keeping your feet fresh and breathable, Soft 1 has an absorptive textile lining that sits comfortably against the skin. Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Our mission now is to stock a vibrant and compelling choice of shoes, boots, sandals, slippers and bags. Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
