The plain derby lace-up is a classic design, fantastically versatile and elegant. This cherry brown leather Ecco version has some modern features which separate it from the traditional mould. Elasticated slits on the derby panels offer more flexibility across the upper, allowing discrete movement as the foot changes shape throughout the day. Additionally, Ecco has integrated a Lefa welt. Lefa, is bonded leather fibre material made from over 90% natural and re-growing raw materials. Putting a welt on this shoe provides a stronger attachment point for the sole to the upper. Alongside these, a leather and textile interior offers an ideal inner climate, assisted by a removable leather-topped foam insole. This insole has a superior heel cup and underfoot cushioning. Perforation of the forefoot circulates air around the toes with a walking motion. A direct injected PU outsole with built-in shock point at the heel significantly reduces ground impact at the heel. The Ecco Ian is a superb candidate for any gent wanting a comfortable classy shoe, which can be both formal and dressed down.

Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
