The Cham 7 gets its name from the chameleon. Merrell regards this range as adaptable as the reptile it’s inspired by. Hiker-inspired, this walking shoe boasts a completely waterproof Gore-Tex lining. Gore-Tex is a membrane which completely repels water, yet remains highly breathable. The upper of this style is made from nubuck, suede leather and mesh. The mesh runs up the bellows tongue, working in partnership with the Gore-Tex membrane to prevent water and debris accessing the footwell. The toe has a protective rubber cap, a must-have for enthusiastic walkers. The interior is as protective and comfortable as the upper. A ‘Kinetic Fit’ removable insole with an ergonomic shape, beds the foot nicely. The foot is cradled within a heel cup that considerably cushions at the point of impact. The insole also has a perforated toe which encourages air to circulate within the footwell, ensuring an optimum climate. The stability and comfort generated by the EVA midsole are superb. Partner this alongside a TC5+ Vibram outsole which has excellent shock absorption and traction on difficult terrain, and the Cham 7 GTX is a sure winner.

Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
