These quality handmade leather ankle boots from French company Laura Vita combine colour and pattern to create something quite striking. In contrast to the plain heel and toe caps, the vamp of Alessandra is imprinted with a floral-paisley design, the natural tan colour of the leather showing through a spray-paint effect. Alessandra 15-v20 has a turquoise toe and burgundy heel counter, version 15-v50 has a taupe toe and grey heel counter, and version 15-v60 has a red toe and purple heel counter. Multicoloured contrast stitching joins together the leather sections of the heel, vamp and toe. Alessandra has a zip fastening down the inside of the boot and a Chelsea-style band of ridged elastic stitched into the outside of the upper at the ankle provides flexibility of fit. Bringing the colourful, patterned upper together is a burnished ebony-black rubber sole with a solid block 5cm high heel and an attractive welt in which the stitching is visible. Alessandra is a comfortable, broad fitting shoe with a leather insole and soft textile inner. The attention to detail evident in the construction of this boot is exceptional. Who we are and how is it that we came to be so passionate about shoes?
Like many classics our story revolves around one or two ambitious pioneers, a love affair, war, a family drama, conflict and its resolution. What laces this story together is a connection with the land, and a need to provide for the people of it.
Let’s set the scene of how our business was born. It’s 1905 and Thomas Rogerson sits concentrating over his tools in a shed at the end of a bridge in Rothbury. Motivated by the desire to win the hand of Isabelle, he needs to learn a trade. And so it was that he learnt to repair shepherd’s boots.
Skip forward over 100 years from this humble beginning, and here we are; from robust, carefully crafted tackety boots designed to tackle the heather hilltops, to on-trend trainers in a spectrum of colours, designed to tackle the concrete jungle! Originally sold under canvas at agricultural shows, by mail order or taken directly to farms. Now, displayed using bright light boxes in our high street stores, or sold via easy on-line orders that will arrive at your door.

Made using traditional and progressive manufacturing techniques and a wide range of materials from Gore-Tex to vegetable tanned leathers, our selection is diverse. Ranging from fun, quirky, edgy and joyful designs, to sophisticated classics, to practical waterproof adventure shoes and boots for enjoying the hills.
Different from other footwear retailers in terms of the breadth of our range, we stock many styles that are unique to our business, including colour combinations, prints and lasts. Prioritising pricing, quality and comfort we work on the principle that well-made shoes wear better, are more of a pleasure to wear, and ultimately, are less wasteful.

With weekly training on everything from leather, construction techniques and technical features, our staff aim to facilitate a friendly and efficient shopping experience and will go out of their way to bring you all the shoes you fancy trying on! Alternatively, one of our 120 strong team of keen beans will carefully parcel them up for your online orders. We dispatch from both our central warehouse in the pretty town of Peebles, and from our 13 busy stores across Scotland.
