“Do not give this to your birds.
Garlic contains organosulfur compounds that destroy red blood cells, causing hemolytic anaemia. This is documented in peer-reviewed avian veterinary literature including a published case study of a bird that died from garlic ingestion (Wade & Newman, Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery, 2004). Budgies are specifically noted as more susceptible due to their small body mass.
The reason other reviews here look positive is important to understand. Garlic poisoning in birds is cumulative and slow. There is no immediate collapse. Your bird may seem completely normal for weeks while the damage builds. By the time symptoms appear: lethargy, laboured breathing, pale mucous membranes: the cause is almost impossible to trace back to a treat bought months earlier. Most owners never make the connection.
The ingredients on this product are maize flour and garlic. Dried and baked garlic retains the same toxic compounds as fresh. Concentrated forms are in fact more potent, not less. This is confirmed by Lafeber Veterinary, the Merck Veterinary Manual, and the Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics, all of which list garlic explicitly as toxic to birds in any form. It is absolutely shocking any bird food supplier recommends this as a "healthy".”
