“I bought the tea for my african grey due to him going through a bad spring breeding season and soon after he drank the tea it went straight through him. It was like he had a laxative. My african grey as drunk normally tea in the past and there was no bad reaction. It could be just be my african grey having this experience with the Hormone tea as other reviews have been positive. Like humans we experience things differently, so the hormone tea might work for your parrot, just monitor their reaction to the tea to see if its worth while continuing the treatment.”

What you observed may actually be related to one of the herbs in the blend rather than a true laxative effect. For example, dandelion can act as a mild diuretic, meaning it can increase urine output in mammals. While this effect is more common in mammals, it has not been observed in birds. It’s definitely not acting as a laxative, but it’s more likely that your African Grey was simply producing more urine. This isn’t necessarily a negative reaction. In some cases, gentle diuretic effects can be beneficial and help support the body’s natural detoxification processes. However, as you correctly noted, every Parrot is different, and your Parrot may be more sensitive than others. Also, ensuring access to plenty of fresh water can help prevent dehydration if increased urination occurs. The purpose of offering herbal teas to Parrots is to provide natural support through additional nutrients, working alongside a healthy, well-balanced diet.
