“The actors, scenery, sound and lighting were brilliant. The VR component was a bit of a letdown - two out of the three scenes were glitchy and one of them froze altogether. The group enjoyed making the moral decision although I’m not really sure it had much impact in the plot, and the ending was a little confusing and underwhelming. Having the virtual actor rather than a real one detracted from the event to be honest, even if he is apparently famous. I’d rather have a real person playing guy Fawkes, and some more of the excellent projected visuals like in the room where we met the secret agent than a VR ending. Also annoying was your policy on covid. My partner did the responsible thing and tested in the morning of the show, getting a positive result. Because it was the same day rather than the day before, that meant you wouldn’t reschedule?! Therefore I’d suggest to other customers not to test for covid and just come along anyway… which hardly seems fair to your actors or the other customers.”
“The actors were brilliant but the VR was terrible, my first one didn't work at all, so changed with my son and I spent the whole time sorting his out, so missed all but the last 20 seconds of it, as got moved to the other side of area, the second VR bit our boat didn't move, we was just sat with fans going on and off and the final VR scene was better but mine and my partners kept going white. Honestly not worth the money, until they sort the VR part of it out...”
“The actors and the experience were great fun and we all really enjoyed it. The VR at points was a little glitchy and the bar/restaurant was awfully understaffed - drinks took 45 mins from ordering and food had to be cancelled as it took so long.
But the actual experience itself was great hence the 4 stars.”
“I was very disappointed with the experience, we went as a group of five, four of us had been to The War Of The Worlds experience, which based on that experience made us book the gunpowder plot, the actors were very good but there wasnt enough VR.
The VR that we did have was full of technical problems which meant most of the party having to swap headsets, which in turn meant missing out on the experience, there was a lot of waiting around which was detrimental to the whole ambiance that was trying to be created.
Sadly to say I wouldn’t be recommending this to any friends, which is a shame as i hoped it would have been as good or better than TWOTW.”
“We - a very middle aged couple - really enjoyed the experience with its story line, our active involvement, some excellent actors taking the story along and the 3 virtual reality sequences, which were very engaging, especially the first 2.
There were some hiccups with the VR, with some temporary blank screens (still sound) but I am sure any glitches will soon be ironed out.
And in the Duck and Drake, suggest you set up the right number of seats around 2 tables to ensure everyone can be part of the group decision making. It was great fun and well worth the trip from the Midlands.”
“Our 10 year old daughter was a bit young for this ... but showed the power of the experience.
"I'm scared" she said
"But you know it's not real, it's like the theatre", I replied
"No it's not! In the theatre, you it in a seat and watch the stage. Here I am on the stage", she exclaimed.
Only criticism is the trend these days to change the gender and race of people in history to meet the demographics of today. Thankfully they explained it at the end - so don't think this is a historical lesson.”
