“Had watched many reviews on this edition, but they definitely don’t do it justice the book came well packaged and the letters incased within the book are stunning to look at, and authentic and lovely in the hand. Bought it as a gift for someone, and was definitely not disappointed”
“This is an excellent gift if you love Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen as it is the complete novel that includes a number of letters written, for example, in the character of Jane, Lizzie, Mr Collins, Caroline Bingley and Darcy. These letters are a painstakingly faithful imitation of letters written in the Regency period – an authentic reproduction together with some beautiful wax stains. Letters prove a connection and a shared history. The changes in Elizabeth and also the plot hinges on her ability to reread letters in a different state of mind as words of a letter stay the same but their meaning does not change. Envelopes, as we now know them, did not exist in the period when this story was written. Lizzie’s hostile reaction to Darcy’s first marriage proposal leads Darcy to write his explanatory letter which is pivotal to the novel and the relationship between Lizzie and Darcy then begins to change; Lizzie then begins to see Darcy in a new light. This letter is covered more in the Introduction than in the notes on the letters at the back of book and there is also a short explanation on the elements of a letter at the time of the story, which is very interesting to read. Pride & Prejudice follows the turbulent relationship between Elizabeth, the daughter of a country gentlemen, and Fitzwilliam Darcy, a rich aristocratic landowner. They must overcome the sins of pride and prejudice in order to fall in love and marry.”
