“1) We have a farm and have planted several hundred oaks, hollies & beech over 30 years and never seen such a disastrous treatment of a tree before this one ordered from Grasslands. 2)The tree was supposed to be a "rootball" but we opened its cloth and the roots had been cut off with a spade to a 7ins circle, and there was absolutely no soil, either on the roots or in the package. Instead, dense clay was packed around the base of the tree to fill out the package. 3) The website said Manufacturer "Grasslands" but the staff said it had been bought in. 4) In spite of taking an immediate video and photos & forwarding them, the owner Stephen Watmore, who had never seen inside the package, just kept stating that the tree had been dug out of the ground with its roots, surrounding soil and packaged in its own soil. 5) He said that as we had opened the "rootball" the tree could no longer be sold "this season" ! So he plans to sell a 180cm tree which had its roots cut off, wrappped in clay and spent 10 days in a stranger's possession. Beware. 6) This business is buying in plants already wrapped and paying so little the grower has shaken the soil off the roots, then Grasslands are claiming they grew them. I cut my losses and paid for the delivery and the return collection of the tree - £60. They declined to take back the bucket of clay that came with this tree with cut off roots. I am writing this in March 2022, or I would complain to trading standards about this organisation. The owner is dreadful to deal with - See the internet complaints by former members of staff.”
